APC: Governors, NWC Members Meet As Consensus Plot Thickens

A closed-door meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) and governors who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked off in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

The meeting is holding at the APC National Secretariat at Wuse 2 area of the City Centre.

It was gathered from sources at the party’s headquarters that the meeting is likely to take a final decision on who should be fielded as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 poll.

The party’s presidential primary is slated for Tuesday.

The APC had screened 23 aspirants to contest its ticket at the primary but two contestants – Jigawa State governor, Abubakar Badaru and former Senate President, Ken Nnamani – have withdrawn from the race, leaving 21 others to slug it out.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the party stakeholders and aspirants to think of consensus.

However, on Monday, there were reports that one of the aspirants had been endorsed as the choice of the president.

But Buhari later distanced himself from the report.

Okorocha jumped bail to evade trial – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said that its operatives laid siege to the residence of former Imo Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha because of his refusal to honour the commission’s invitations.

It said Okorocha jumped administrative bail granted him by EFCC.

It also alleged that attempts to arraign Senator Okorocha were stalled twice owing to the absence of the ex-Governor who reportedly evaded service of processes.

The EFCC made the clarifications in a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren. The statement reads: “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today May 24, 2022, arrived at the Maitama, Abuja home of a former Governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, to effect his arrest.

“The move followed the refusal of the former governor to honour invitations after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted him by the commission.“ EFCC had on January 24, 2022 filed a 17-count criminal charge bordering on diversion of public funds and properties to the tune of N2.9billion against Okorocha.

“ The case was assigned to Honourable Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja but attempts to arraign Senator Okorocha were twice stalled owing to the absence of the ex-governor who evaded service of processes.

“At the last adjourned date, March 28th, 2022, Justice Ekwo before adjourning until May 30th, 2022, had warned that it was “the last adjournment I shall grant in this matter”.

“In the circumstances, the commission is left with no option than to effect the arrest of Senator Okorocha and bring him to trial.”

2023: I Will Establish Religious Affairs Ministry, Declares Free Education – Yarima

By Sunday Isuwa, Abuja

Former Governor of Zamfara State, Sen Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura, yesterday declared that he will fight insecurity, give free education from primary to secondary school and establish a ministry of religious affairs if he becomes President in 2023.

Yarima stated this when he received a donation of N100 million All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms from his support groups.

Yarima who said he was out of the country when the APC fixed the N100 millions for the forms, added that he eventually received a call from Yarima Support Organization (YSO) that they have already opened an account where people are donating money to buy the forms for him.

“I am happy to receive the forms today, ” Yarima said, adding that as governor and Senator, he has articulated the changing problems of Nigeria.

Yarima who received the forms from Makama Tukur Wada, a member of the YSO, said he will recruit police and ensure they are well paid if he emerged president.

“Poverty has been ravaging the country. I will address poverty by ensuring that every Nigerian has something to do if I emerged president.

“Every child must go to school. I will provide free education from primary to secondary school. Every student in the tertiary institutions will have access to money for the payment of their school fees.

“I will establish a ministry of religious affairs. Pastors and Imams will be empowered to educate the people on religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

“Every Nigerian will have freedom of religion including those who wish to change their religion,” Yarima said, adding, “I will fight insecurity, poverty, fight ignorance and establish a ministry of religious affairs. Very soon, I will unveil my vision for Nigeria,” Yarima added.

Also speaking, Sen Sa’abi Ya’u said Yarima is a great presidential aspirant that should be supported adding that for someone to be out of power for 14 years and be so loved by people means a lot.

He said the downtrodden expect him to deliver that is why they contributed money to buy the form for him to save the country.

“You are an honest person, trustworthy and educated person who will move the country forward,” Ya’u said.

On his part, former Commissioner for Information in Imo State, Prof Fidelis Ajumbe, said he has been following Yarima since 1999 adding that there are 6 million followers of Yarima in the South East because he is a detribilised Nigerian.

According to Ajumbe, Yarima will unite the country adding that the South East should come out in their numbers and give their support to Sani Yarima.

Also speaking, Bishop Edward Williams, said they were at the rally to support Yarima to win the 2023 presidential election.

According to the Bishop, they will work to ensure that Yarima emerges president.

The Director General (DG) Yarima Support Organization (YSO), Ambassador Bala Adamu, said Yarima means alot to different people in Nigeria adding that Nigerians have gathered money from N100 to N500,000 which enable them to purchase the form for him.

He said they believed he is certainly the right choice and that he will change things for the better as soon as he emerged president.

Adamu said they purchased the forms so that Yarima will contest for the APC primary election.
