Crack in APC NWC

10th Assembly: Group Rejects APC’s Plan to Zone Speakership Position to Northwest

The Coordinator, Alliance for True Democracy in Nigeria (ATDN), Hon. Inalegwu Ejembi Adaje, has expressed displeasure and disappointment over the purported plan to zone the speakership and deputy senate position of the 10th national assembly to the Northwest by the APC.

Hon. Adaje, member and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a press statement on Sunday, said, “If democracy must survive in Nigeria, people must be allowed to make their choice.”

While rejecting the plan, he stressed that the Northwest had produced 4 speakers since 1999, which are, Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, Hon. Salisu Buhari, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, and Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, while the North Central hasn’t produced any.

Further speaking, Hon. Adaje disclosed that qualified persons from the north central who had contributed immensely to the success of the party in the last election have shown interest in the leadership position and should be allowed to contest the position without resistance from the Party.

He likewise pointed out that the North Central has been consistent in voting APC in all elections, and presently have Governor-elects in 4 states.

Adaje also told the APC to remember that the opposition has the majority in the 10th Assembly, and anything short of justice would cost the party leadership of the green chambers.
Further speaking, Hon. Adaje disclosed that a highly qualified person from the North Central like Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Chairman, House Committee on Navy, who has contributed immensely to the success of the party and has a good plan for legislative reforms, should be supported to become the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
He, therefore, urged them to zone the positions to the North Central for equity, fairness and justice.
